Section 72(1)(b)(i) of the National Credit Act affords every person the right to inspect any credit bureau, national credit register, file or information without charge once within any period of twelve months. As from 1 September 2006 this right may only be exercised during or after the month in which the person was born, as per the following time-frame:

December 2006             Only consumers born during months from September to December

March 2007                   Only consumers born during months from September to March
April 2007                     Only consumers born during months from September to April
May 2007                      Only consumers born during months from September to May
June 2007                     Only consumers born during months from September to June
July 2007                      Only consumers born during months from September to July
August 2007                  Only consumers born during months from September to August


The regulations issued by The Department of Trade and Industry also contain the prescribed application and registration fees for credit providers, credit bureaux's and debt counsellors in terms of section 51 of the act.
