2010 trademark deadline extended

The deadline for the submission of objections on the proposed prohibition on the use of certain words and emblems for the 2010 Soccer World Cup has been extended.

Trade and Industry Minister Mandisi Mpahlwa said in a statement that the deadline has been extended to 2 October 2007.  Initial deadline was 2 August 2007.

The ministry called for interested parties to submit, in writing, objections to FIFA's application asking for certain words and emblems to be trademarks and for their use to be prohibited except by FIFA.

Objections could be submitted to McDonald Netshitenzhe, the director of commercial law and policy.
