bursaries offered for enviro, land studies
3 October 2007
Bursaries are now available for students in Mpumalanga who want to work with animals, the environment or shape the towns and cities they live in. "The bursaries include full tuition, study material, accommodation and meals," said the department's spokesperson, Hebron Kgalane, adding that students would be responsible for their own transport and pocket money.
Those who are interested in applying for the bursaries must have passed Mathematics, Physical Science, English and Biology on Higher Grade. He said they must be South Africans and permanent residents of Mpumalanga and may not currently be benefiting from any other bursary scheme.
The deadline is 31 October and application letters must include a copy of academic results, a curriculum vitae, Identity Document book, and proof of registration or provisional acceptance from the University of Pretoria, Tshwane University of Technology and the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Last month, Mpumalanga's Finance Department also offered bursaries to students who wanted to study human resource management, information technology, financial management and internal auditing.
Students have until 2 November to apply for the bursaries, which will cover full tuition and boarding for the 2008 year. "The number of bursaries is limited, so we encourage students, especially from deep rural areas, to take a chance and apply," said human resource development officer at the department, Joshua Zwane at the time.
He said preference would be given to black students from poor backgrounds, as well as to those who have disabilities. The students must be younger than 35 and their applications must include a certified copy of the student's Grade 12 certificate or a certified copy of their mid-year exams if they are currently in Grade 12.
