Fuel price cuts screech to a halt

The retail price of all grades of petrol will increase by 61c a litre on Wednesday February 4, the department of minerals and energy announced on 30 January 2009. This follows the 134c and 161c drops in the prior two months.
Diesel prices will however decrease, with 0.05% sulphur falling by five cents and 0.005% by seven cents. Wholesale paraffin decreases by 14c and illuminating paraffin by 19c.
Petrol in Gauteng now costs 662c a litre from 601c before, and it is now 638c at the coast from 577c before.
During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol increased whilst diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased.
The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared to the previous period. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period January 2 2009 to January 29 2009 was R9.9332 compared to R9.9518 during the previous period.
