joburg deeds office shut
22 October 2007
The Johannesburg Deeds Office is up and running after it was closed on Friday morning, the Department of Land Affairs said.
The department's Tshepo Diale said there was a three-hour delay due to issues between the landlord and the department. He would not elaborate.
"There was confusion as employees arrived to work and the office was locked," he said.
He said the unforeseen circumstances which led to the delay raised fears among the stakeholders.
"Property developers and conveyors raised concerns about the millions of rands they were losing because the office was closed," Diale said.
He said they would make sure that any backlogs would be eradicated.
