23c/l petrol climb on wednesday

The retail price of all grades of petrol will rise by 23 cents per litre from Wednesday 6 June, the Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Friday. This follows the 34 cents per litre rise that recently took effect from Wednesday 2 May.
The latest changes bring the retail price of a litre of 95 octane unleaded petrol in Gauteng to 724 cents per litre and to 700 cents per litre at the coast — both all-time highs.
During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased.
The average rand/US dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared to the previous period. The average rand/US dollar exchange rate for the period 25 April 2007 to 31 May 2007 was 7.0457 compared to 7.1680 during the previous period.
The wholesale price of diesel 0.05 percent sulphur will increase by five cents a litre and that of 0.005 percent sulphur will rise by seven cents a litre on the same date.
The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will rise by two cents a litre, while the single maximum national retail price of illuminating paraffin will increase by three cents.
