woolies donates yoghurt

All the recalled yoghurt was "perfectly safe and very nutritious," said its head of food, Julian Novak. Woolworths announced earlier this week that it had taken "selected yoghurt product" off its shelves because a supplier had included gelatine in an ingredient.  "Woolworths's agreement with the supplier is explicit - gelatine may not be included in the yoghurt.

"The supplier has acted in contravention of the signed agreement and immediate and punitive action is being taken against the offending supplier," it said in a statement. On Friday, the company emphasised that it was seeking a new ingredient supplier to produce a gelatine-free yoghurt - but not a new yoghurt supplier.

It cautioned that those customers who chose not to eat gelatine, "may wish to avoid eating any Woolworths yoghurt they may still have in their homes" and said these products could be returned for a full refund.

The company hoped to have gelatine-free yoghurt back on its shelves in the near future, said Novak.
