Mde said the eighteen month period was meant to allow government time to set up institutional mechanisms which would create an enabling environment for the implementation of the B-BBEE. "The end of this period effectively means that the codes which were gazetted by the dti in February 2007 will now automatically apply across the economy," he said.
Mde said the department had finalised the process of identifying and vetting potential candidates for the appointment to the advisory council which would advise government on the implementation of the B-BBEE. He said considerable work had been done by the department and treasury to align the preferential procurement policy framework act with the codes. He added that progress had been made with the finalisation of approved verification agencies. Mde said the department would unveil a BEE IT protal with effect from Monday.
"With effect from 1 September, the dti will unveil a BEE IT portal a publicly accessible central database for promoting business opportunities, reporting fronting and management of flow of information to the dti,"he said.
