Deadline looms for Workplace Skills Plans 19 May 2009
Many employers are still far from ready to meet the 30 June deadline for submitting their Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) in terms of the Skills Levies Act and regulations governing the levy.
Suzanne Hattingh, of The Skills Portal, says companies that meet the requirements for the submission of WSPs and annual training reports (ATRs) qualify for the 50% mandatory grants paid by Sector Education and Training Authorities (Setas). They can also increase their broad-based black economic empowerment ratings as 15% of the scorecard is allocated to skills development.
‘Every organisation needs a skills planning process like the WSP. Skills development should be a continuous, planned and structured process influenced by the Seta requirements for submitting WSPs and ATRs, but not dependent on them,’ she said.
