clicks to scrap old light bulbs
6 November 2007

Clicks retailer announced that it would no longer stock and sell the old energy inefficient, incandescent light bulbs.

Clicks would only sell energy saving bulbs and had crushed its stock of more than 56 000 incandescent bulbs, the company's Merchandise Executive Craig Ludwig said.

Minerals and Energy Department Director of Energy efficiency Dr Elsa du Toit said the initiative would contribute towards government's goal of a twelve percent reduction in energy demand by 2015.

General Operations Manager for the National Energy Efficiency Agency, Barry Bredenkamp hoped other retailers would follow suite. "Otherwise we will approach them individually."

As sales volumes of the new bulbs increased, prices would drop, allowing for the old bulbs to be phased out completely said Bredenkamp.
