Consumer bill too onerous |
The government’s bid to safeguard the interests of consumers by means of the Consumer Protection Bill was too onerous on business, representatives from various economic sectors submitted in Parliament. Retailers, direct marketers, cellphone operators, motor retailers and the financial services sector warned of the danger of over-regulation and of economic sectors being governed by a range of overlapping and possibly conflicting laws. Parliament passes key business bills |
The National Assembly last week passed two crucial bills affecting business. The Companies Bill and the Consumer Protection Bill now go to the n ational c ouncil of provinces for concurrence. The 194-page Companies Bill, is the first major revision of the 1973 Companies Act, taking account of the many changes in the corporate environment since then. Read more...
